SHALOM AND WELCOME TO KYIV!
TOUR INFORM representative, CORAL Travel Agency has great experience in dealing with Jewish interest tours. Our company closely cooperates with such Jewish organizations as SOCHNUT (the Jewish Agency for Israel) and JOINT (the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, Inc).

KYIV is a city of about 3 million people with a Jewish population of about 100 000. Ukraine itself, with 500 000 Jews, has the second largest Jewish population in the world after France.

In the early years of socialism Kyiv was a major center of Jewish culture - with schools, Yiddish newspapers, a Jewish state theatre - but beginning in 1930's Jewish culture was systematically destroyed. And on September 21, 1941, when it must have seemed that nothing worse could happen to Kyiv Jewry, the Germans captured the city. On September 28 the German authorities ordered the city's Jews to report the next day with documents, money and warm clothes to the corner of Melnikova and Dukhtorovsky Streets or face executions; the Germans themselves had spread rumors that the Jew's would be recollected to ghettos or labor camps. Instead they were marched to the nearby ravine, Babyi Yar, executed and buried in mass graves. More than 33.000 were murdered in the first two days, and by the time the killings were over 200.000 had died at Babyi Yar.
We'd like to offer you a special Jewish tour in Kyiv with visit of such sights as Babij Yar, Podol, which looks like it hasn't changed since before the Revolution, the old Great Synagogue, main street of Kyiv Khreschatyk, International Solomon University, Ulpan, Shahar Youth club and many others. You'll have an opportunity to walk along Kyiv streets and to see houses where Shalom Aleichem, Golda Meir and other world known personalities of Jewish culture lived.
Kyiv has also developed as the hub of a vibrant regional network of Jewish organizations, which reaces out to Jews in hundreds of communities throughout Ukraine.

All of Ukraine is a side from Kyiv, and the direction Jewish travelers take these days usually depends on where their parents or grandparents came from. With places like Berdichev, Zhitomir, Vinnitsa and Chernovtsy to the west, Uman, Nicolaev and Odessa to the south, Kyiv is the center of the genealogical route; and like Poland, most of the smaller cities and towns in Ukraine still have Jews. These old Jewish settlements and towns are also the land of traditional Jewish agriculture and the important centers of Hasidism.

CORAL is glad to offer:
  • Genealogical tours with of local archives to find the family roots, to visit the birthplace of grandparents
  • Religious pilgrimage tours to the places of worship connected with Hasidism
  • Jewish interest tours (sights of Kyiv, L'viv, Chernihiv, ets)
  • Charity mission to Ukraine
  • Special individual tours

In Ukraine, once heart of the world's largest concentrations of Jews and the birth of Hassidism, Jewish life has begun to blossom in defiance of historical logic.
